"Be not afraid, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name: you are mine."
Isaiah 43:1
Confirmation candidates choose a Confirmation Name. This name symbolizes the completion of their Baptism in Confirmation. In the Bible and the Early Church, a new name represented a new phase in one's life with a great devotion to God. Abram became Abraham (Genesis 17:5), Jacob became Israel (Genesis 35:10), Simon became Peter (Matthew 16:17-18), and Saul became Paul (Acts 13:9).
Candidates may choose to use their Baptismal (first) name, or they may choose the name of the saint they wish to adopt as their patron (role model). The saint chosen is often one the candidate admires or has a devotion to.
A good list of saints' names may be found here
Names must be chosen by September 12. Please fill out the form below to submit your name choice.
The reflection paragraph is just a short explanation of why you chose your name. Is there a relative you admire? Is that saint particularly special to you? How come? How do you hope the patronage (special protection) of your Confirmation saint will aid you as you forward in faith throughout your life?
